The Everard Read Gallery acquired the Ulundi site from the V&A with the view to converting the building into a gallery called Circa. This would provide an additional gallery to their existing one located in the same precinct.
The transformation of the building into a gallery was achieved by removing internal walls that opened up the spaces. The external entrance courtyard was covered to create an internal sculpture courtyard.
Stone, from the demolition of the internal walls, was reused to create an external wall and to formalise an existing northern courtyard and Sculpture Garden to the North East.
The transformation of this building from offices to gallery, has produced a building in which the public can now enjoy the art it exhibits.
