Hankey Magistrate’s Court

Project Summary

This Magistrates Court is a new building for the town of Hankey in the Eastern Cape, for the Department of Justice. The project required the design and planning of a complicated brief, which was further complicated by the site being too small for the accommodation.

The two Magistrates courts are connected to the public via a large central concourse that also formed the link to the courts for the many administrative support offices.

The magistrates themselves access the courts independently with the parking and detainee facilities located in the basement. This project has led to our Durban office getting the contract for the renovation for the Durban High Court, a R200 million project.
