The new Everard Read gallery was to replace the existing gallery on the same site. The site is part of the Portswood precinct in the V&A Waterfront main gallery building. The building is made up of a basement, z Floors and a roof deck, there is also an admin wing in place of the existing courtyard. The front of the building is conceived as a pure solid with the volume opened up strategically to allow light and entrance functionality giving an inherited form on the buildings ability to display paintings and
The roof of the accommodation in the roof deck is an organic red form giving the building and the Everard Read a distinctive marker.
